Snorkeling was a really beautiful experience. Tamir, David, and I had never snorkelled before and we were really excited to see what all the hype was about, plus we got to do it off a beautiful beach in Vietnam so that was a huge plus.
The experience was different from what I have heard others have done and I am not sure I would snorkel like this again but I am really happy to have tried it. The car picked us up at our airbnb at 7:20am and we drive straight to the dock and caught a boat. The boat drove for 45 minutes to an island called Hon Mun where we anchored in the middle of the water and began snorkeling. They gave us masks and flippers and we had an hour to play and look around the coral reefs. It was very cool to see the ocean like this first hand.
We got back on the boat and had lunch and then took the boat to another snorkeling spot nearby. We had an hour there as well and then a 45 minute ride back to shore. The reason I said I don’t know if I would do another excursion like this is because I got pretty sea sick, took Dramamine, got very drowsy, napped, and now I have a sunburn. The breathing under water thing was also a bit of a struggle for me at first but once I got the hang of it I was all good.
During the second snorkeling drop I swam a little too close to the rocks and got stung by a jellyfish. It was stinging and painful but the guy on the boat poured vinegar on my leg and the sting went away really quickly.
Post snorkel we went back and relaxed. David and I went out for pizza (much needed pho break) and then hung on the beach until sunset. It was our final night together as a four pack in Vietnam so we got fancy and went to a beach front restaurant that charged American prices for drinks and food. Worth it.
The restaurant was also a bar with a dance floor and even had a bonfire in the sand. We stayed out until midnight and then went back, packed, and set out alarms for an early morning departure back to Saigon.
The plan is to fly to Saigon, hang there for the day, and then fly out at midnight for our day in Dubai.
